Our Travel Guide 2026: Unique Outdoor Destinations for Adventure and Exploration

Some years move forward without much notice. Others seem to gather momentum.
Now in March 2026, the Year of the Horse in the lunar calendar, the symbolism feels particularly grounded. The horse has long been associated with endurance, distance, and forward motion across open terrain. Less a mystical emblem than a reminder of stamina and direction.
Travel, too, has shifted in that direction. Increasingly, it favors environments that demand presence over spectacle. Places where weather, altitude, and geography shape the experience. Where preparation matters, and movement is not ornamental but essential.
At ARYS, movement is understood in physical terms. It is terrain underfoot, air at elevation, climate against skin. For 2026, we have curated a selection of destinations across continents that reflect this approach. Landscapes defined by geology, exposure, and cultural depth. Places where exploration requires awareness, and where the journey itself becomes the point.
White Desert, Egypt
Located in the Western Desert of Egypt, the White Desert is a vast expanse of surreal chalk rock formations sculpted by wind and time. Its pale limestone towers rise from the sand like frozen clouds, creating one of the most otherworldly landscapes in North Africa.
The region is best experienced through desert trekking and overnight expeditions under open skies. Camping here, surrounded by silence and starlight, transforms the desert into a contemplative space. It is a journey defined by stillness, vastness, and the sensation of being suspended between earth and sky.
Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and the tallest free standing mountain in the world, rising 5,895 meters above sea level. Climbing Kilimanjaro is less technical mountaineering and more an endurance based high altitude trek, accessible yet demanding.
The mountain has long symbolized personal challenge and transformation. Ernest Hemingway famously immortalized it in The Snows of Kilimanjaro, reinforcing its cultural presence beyond geography. Reaching the summit is as much about pacing and mental resilience as it is about altitude. It remains one of the most iconic outdoor achievements on the continent.
Sapa, Vietnam
Nestled in the northern highlands of Vietnam, Sapa is known for its terraced rice fields cascading along mountain slopes and its rich cultural heritage shaped by ethnic minority communities.
Trekking through Sapa’s valleys offers both physical engagement and cultural encounter. Mist covered peaks and layered green landscapes define the scenery, while local markets and homestays provide a deeper connection to place. It is a landscape of quiet beauty and slow discovery.
Carretera Austral, Chile
Stretching through the remote regions of Patagonia, the Carretera Austral is less a single destination and more a journey across glaciers, fjords, rivers, and temperate rainforests. Built in the late twentieth century to connect isolated communities, it has become one of the most scenic road trips in the world.
Hiking in Cerro Castillo, kayaking through marble caves in General Carrera Lake, or navigating the vast Patagonian landscapes offers an immersion into raw, elemental nature. The scale of the region reshapes one’s sense of distance and time.
Pamukkale, Türkiye
Pamukkale, meaning “cotton castle” in Turkish, is famous for its white travertine terraces formed by mineral rich thermal waters flowing down a hillside. The natural pools have attracted visitors for centuries, including the ancient Romans, who built the nearby city of Hierapolis.
Today, visitors walk barefoot across the terraces and bathe in warm mineral waters, blending natural wonder with historical continuity. It is both geological spectacle and archaeological site, where landscape and civilization intersect.
Acatenango Volcano, Guatemala
Guatemala’s volcanic landscape offers some of the most dramatic trekking experiences in Central America. Acatenango Volcano is particularly known for its overnight hikes, where climbers camp near the summit and witness the neighboring Fuego Volcano erupting in real time.
Watching lava illuminate the night sky is a powerful reminder of the earth’s active force. The experience combines physical challenge with raw natural spectacle, making it one of the most memorable outdoor journeys in the region.
Goa, India
Often associated with beaches and coastal culture, Goa holds a layered history shaped by Indian and Portuguese influences. Beyond its shoreline, the region offers spiritual retreats, yoga communities, and quieter inland landscapes.
For those seeking balance between movement and reflection, Goa provides both. Early morning swims, forest walks, and time structured around rhythm rather than urgency make it a destination where exploration can be inward as much as outward.
Each place in this selection offers a distinct set of conditions, shaped by climate, terrain, and cultural context. What connects them is not geography, but the kind of engagement they demand. They call for preparation, patience, and a readiness to move through environments rather than simply observe them from a distance.
At ARYS, we approach travel with the same clarity. Our selection is built around different forms of movement and varied needs, from technical performance to minimalist essentials and functional layering. Pieces designed to respond to shifting climates and evolving terrain, supporting journeys that are intentional and well considered.
If 2026 carries momentum, it may lie in that choice. To travel with awareness. To seek landscapes that expand perspective. To move forward with purpose.
