Extremely light and highly packable waterproof men's shell jacket that will keep you sheltered in any blizzard but still takes no more space in your pack than a small orange.

What makes it special?
At the early stages of development this garment was nicknamed The Orange. Why? Because the brief to our design team was to create a fully waterproof, stowable shell jacket no bigger than an orange in its packed state. The idea is that you should always be able to fit this jacket in your backpack and be prepared for any unexpected mountain weather. Full weather protection in an unbelievable light and compact form - That’s The Orange Jacket.

How does it work?
From a layering perspective, the idea with Men's The Orange Jacket, is actually to enable you to wear other garments more. Let’s face it: If you head out for a run, hike, ski tour or long climbing route, a waterproof jacket is rarely the most comfortable option (usually you want to maximize breathability). But you should still never head out without one in case of unpredictable mountain weather. That’s why Houdini designed a fully waterproof shell jacket that you can bring without any effort and still always be ready if bad weather hits. And when the need arises, the ultralight, smooth and silent fabric makes the garment extremely comfortable to wear.

What features does it have?
Men's The Orange Jacket is a minimalistic jacket and to save weight and bulk, Houdini has not added any extra features except the essentials. One chest pocket and hood that can be rolled down. The main feature of the garment is the concept and how it feels to wear it. This is no ordinary shell jacket but an entirely new breed of ultralight smoothness that you will barely feel that you wear but that will still keep you dry in any storm.

When should I use it?
Men's The Orange Jacket is designed for mountain sports where weight and packability are essential: Runnings, ski touring, mountaineering or trad climbing. When you keep it in your pack, you won’t know it’s there, and when rough weather hits, it will keep you dry and happy. It will of course also work as a super light and comfortable rain jacket for all those times when you’re not charging through the mountains.

The Orange Jacket is made from recycled and recyclable polyester, enabling a circular product lifespan where nothing ever becomes waste. It’s also completely free from any toxic chemicals and PFAS. When this garment is worn out, Houdini kindly asks you to return it to them. They have recycling units in all their own stores and at many retailers.

Circular
The Circular label means that this product is made either from recycled and recyclable or renewable and biodegradable fibers. Most products in today’s society are produced in a linear lifecycle, where earth’s resources are extracted, used and then discarded. This approach is not sustainable in the long run and has a significant environmental impact.
Houdini aims to close the loop and reuse the materials that already exist. However, they need your help. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them through the recycling units available in all Houdini stores and at many retailers.

Recycled
The Recycled label means that this garment contains at least 50% recycled fibers (often more; see the product description). The source may be recycled clothes or other materials such as PET bottles. Houdini primarily uses recycled polyester, which offers many benefits. It reduces both CO₂ emissions and water use compared to virgin polyester, although the exact reduction depends on the recycling method. One of Houdini’s suppliers reports 32% lower CO₂ emissions and 94% less water use for mechanically recycled polyester. Beyond production impacts, the major shift is using “waste” as a raw material instead of crude oil.

Recyclable
The Recyclable label means that the raw material in this product can be used to create new products instead of becoming waste. Houdini’s goal is that by 2030, they will extract no raw materials from the earth’s crust for their products. Circular products made from recycled and recyclable materials are a real game changer — but the system only works with your support. When your Houdini garments are completely worn out, please return them to the recycling units available in all Houdini stores and at many retailers.

Shell Jackets with Membrane

  • Air out instead of washing to save water and extend garment life.
  • Wash after contact with salt water, heavy sweat, or dirt—these reduce breathability and water repellency.
  • Use a washing bag to protect the garment and prevent fiber leakage; wipe the filter clean and dispose of lint in the trash.
  • Machine wash cold with mild, eco‑friendly detergent; avoid fabric softener.
  • Hang dry. After drying, apply heat (dryer, drying cabinet, or iron on low) to reactivate the water‑repellent finish.
  • Reapply water-repellent treatment (organic DWR) as needed using spray or wash‑in products.
